LOW-EMISSION ZONES & ZERO-EMISSION ZONES
Method and sources
How this independent service works, what it covers and what it does not establish.
What the check calculates
This is EmissieCheck.nl’s own indicative rule calculation, not the result of an official government checker. It compares vehicle category, fuel, emission class, first registration date and, where relevant, bodywork or weight information with local rules reviewed for the selected city and travel date.
Local rule sets have been reviewed for six cities: Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Utrecht, The Hague, Eindhoven and Gouda. Selecting a city does not check a route or address. Where zones differ within a city, the indication tests the included restrictions and explains their scope. Passenger-car low-emission zones are not the same as zero-emission zones for vans and trucks.
Personal exemptions, granted permits, private use, taxis, special vehicles and additional registration requirements are not fully checked. If vehicle information is missing or inconsistent, local rules are uncertain, or information may not be current, the check says that a further check is needed or provides no reliable conclusion. Rules before 13 October 2026 and unconfirmed rules from 2030 onwards are not reconstructed.
Public vehicle characteristics
For the calculation, the service retrieves selected vehicle characteristics through a public number-plate query service. These may include vehicle category, make or trade name, fuel and emissions fields, first registration and relevant bodywork or weight information. The service does not request the registered keeper’s name or address and does not create a separate long-term number-plate register.
This method describes EmissieCheck’s own indication; it is not an official vehicle decision, source credit, partnership or endorsement. The privacy notice names the recipient of the number-plate query. For official confirmation, use the official RDW number plate check.
Zone data and local rules
The map shows zone boundaries listed in the NDW source. When this source was checked on 14 October 2026, it listed 42 zone entries for 28 municipalities. The feed may change; this count is not proof of complete nationwide coverage. Local rules have been reviewed only for Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Utrecht, The Hague, Eindhoven and Gouda. For other municipalities, available zone information is shown without an access assessment. Check the municipality for local rules.
Policy sources were checked on 13 October 2026. Rules and source information can change. A boundary shown in the source is a map record, not a conclusion that your vehicle may enter.
The background map uses OpenStreetMap tiles; NDW provides the zone feed. Neither organisation endorses or certifies the access indication. The government catalogue lists CC0 1.0 for the NDW dataset and GeoJSON service; this is not a guarantee of nationwide coverage or current legal accuracy and is separate from OpenStreetMap tiles. Separate official checks and limitations
Use the official RDW vehicle check for vehicle registration information and the official exemption desk for exemption information. The vehicle check is not an official determination of access to a zero-emission zone. Personal exemptions, local exceptions and traffic signs remain decisive.
The time shown with your vehicle details is when those details were retrieved; it is not the date when local rules were last reviewed. Missing vehicle information can prevent a reliable indication. The result is not permission, an exemption or a route/address check.
